Course features
July 27th, 2009 Posted in Additional Bible Course Features
Thanks to all of you that took your time to fill out our survey on the sample lesson.
To clarify: While the sample lesson shows the way we plan to teach the verses (p’sukim), there is a LOT more that is going to be in the course. A lot.
Though many people made specific requests in the survey for additional features, I am very happy to say that many of them are already part of our vision of how the course will work. Of course there is a limit to how much we can add, but here is a partial list of what we are planning (NO PROMISES YET).
- A full pronunciation guide of all Hebrew letters and vowels
- A link to a discount for our Instant Hebrew course, for learning to read Hebrew fast
- A list of the most important vocabulary words from the lesson for memorization
- A summary of important grammar rules from the lesson
- A link to a 3rd-party product that will allow the students to speed up or slow down the videos
- Archives of old lessons
- A support forum with help from bilingual Hebrew Bible experts and the other students
Did I forget anything? I probably did!
Are you excited about the course yet? WE ARE!

I’ve been looking to study the Bible more deeply and thought that learning Hebrew would be a big help. After doing a lot of searches on the internet, this is exactly what I was looking for! Very clear, easy to follow, and informative.

I’m doing a Bible study course which would be sooo enriched by knowing more Hebrew… besides, I leave for 2 weeks in Israel in 2 months and 3 days
Yes I know they don’t speak Biblical Hebrew in the streets

I am looking forward to this

Baruch Hashem! This course is going to be sweet. Ani lo yechol lechakot lirot et hatanach bivrit. I’m so looking forward to being able to finally read the word of Adonai in the original Hebrew–I mean, how powerful. It says that creation was brought into being by the word of His mouth–by Hebrew. Being able to read it the way it was spoken is tremendous. Right on guys!

Hi annew, I’ll be in Israel all October, can’t wait!!! Hey, there are lots of words in the Bible that you’ll hear in the streets.
And sneysi, try downloading Davar from davar3.net It’s free and has Hebrew and English versions of the Bible
Being able to read and understand the original Hebrew can make a huge diference (especially checking up on what some people may be trying to tell you) But knowing the Hebrew mindset behind the words and phrases adds another whole dimension to truly understanding God’s message, so I hope that can also be added to this course in some way.
For example: why does Hebrew use the expression ‘there is to/for me’ rather than ‘I have’

Dear Creators of this totally cool help in Hebrew,
I am so very excited about this program. I am a home school mom of 7 and we have been studying Hebrew for some time although we have not found a program that we truly enjoy. I believe this one will be in good portions that all the children and mom & dad will be able to come away with a good working knowledge of Biblical Hebrew. I believe it is so important for us to be able to read and understand the Word in the original language! Just the little bit that we have studied we find sooooo many errors in our English text. We want to be able to read the Word in it undefiled form!! I truly believe it will lead to greater understanding of the Word and what our Heavenly Father wanted us to understand!
Shalom and Blessings,
Aniyah (Cathy)

Thank you for including me in this offer to learn Hebrew online. I can’t wait to get started! I have been learning for 7 months by myself, so this will make it so much easier.
Only the Flash video came up on my iMac. The wmv was blank. That’s fine though, at least I could watch it, if not save it.
It’s really excellent the way you have set up the learning program, with the indicator helping to follow, and with your grammatical explanations. It’s like being in a classroom with a real teacher pointing things out. The grammar and construction part I really need, e.g. when you said that the Vav made יהי into the past tense.
You should be blessed a million times for bringing this light of learning to we who really want to read in Lashon Kodesh!
I have a couple of questions for you though, before I sign up and pay.
a) Torah is written without vowels, and so are most siddurs, haggadot etc. What should we do if we learn Hebrew with vowel indicators, and then have to read Hebrew without them?
b) Does your course cover the 5 books of Torah (is Chumash the word?), or does it include Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and all the other Hebrew books?
c) When can we get started?
d) How long will the course take, at an average pace?
e) Can the course be taken at a faster rate?
f) Can the course be put on hold if one needs to go overseas or on a business trip?
Thank you and may G-d bless you for the work you’ve done.
Shalom

Ezza, you are absolutely right – I have learned to read Hebrew with the vowels and now, I cannot read it without. I encourage people to learn without the vowels! it might take longer and harder work but it will be very beneficial

Shalom,
This is awesome and will assist me greatly with my biblical studies which i’m currently pursuing with Victory bible institute.
I also travel to Jerusalem and lodge at the Old city for the Feast of the Tabernacles annually.
I’ve always wanted to be fluent in the Hebrew language and this is a great opportunity to give it a go!

Hello,
This course is much better than I supposed it to be. I am a Hungary-based interpreter of several language and decided to learn Hebrew alone without tutors. This first lessen helped me to understand some items that were not clear for me. I am sure it is going to be ven better.

This course is very well put together from what I can tell. I’m a Baal Tshuva, and I’m very excited that I will be able to learn the same things my children are learning in school. I obviously can’t go back to kita aleph! Now, I have an opportunity to learn with my children, and hopefully be able to help them with their homework in the very near future. Thank you!

After studying for five years, this course sample showed me that I have learned much about Hebrew… but still need to learn more. The sample lesson was so encouraging and challenging at the same time. Please know that your hard work is appreciated very much by those like me that do not have access to Hebrew speaking friends.
Keep up the great work!

I am interested in this course very much as I am intent on learning both Modern Hebrew and the Hebrew of the Bible. I’ve been considering the planned features of the course and I find them very valuable for my purposes. Firstly, a complete pronunciation guide of all the vowels and consonants is very much needed and since the teachers provide us with a close approximation to the Modern spoken language, that should be beneficial to my studies. Secondly, it is good to single out the more important words that are worth memorizing. I suppose these would be words such as ‘elohim’ and ‘or’ from the sample lesson. It might be a good idea, if I may suggest, to mention whether or not these words still function in the same senses in Modern Hebrew (I believe some of us would be interested in this comparison). Thirdly, as far as grammar is concerned, the teacher explained very clearly each item in the sample lesson, especially regarding the function of the vav before a verb (i.e. how it changes the tense). I wonder if it would be appropriate for this course to provide us with the tables of conjugations and other such information relevant to the material we will be covering and with some exercises perhaps. I am looking forward to the professional assistance of the bilingual experts and other students
and hoping to see the finalized version of the course shortly.

The features presented makes the course a very complete and resourceful. This will clearly keep motivated many, if not all the participants taking this course.
